The Annecy International Animation Film Festival prepares its 2022 edition
After a cancellation in 2020 and a hybrid version in 2021, the world-famous Annecy International Animation Film Festival (FIFA) will be back in person from 13 to 18 June, with Switzerland as guest of honour.
For 6 days, moving image professionals, actors, producers and film fans from all over the world will be taking over the little Venice of the Alps. More than 15,000 spectators and enthusiasts are expected to discover the latest animated works presented especially for the occasion.
The programme includes screenings in the various cinemas around Annecy, as well as open-air screenings, exhibitions, conferences, book signings and a host of fun activities and workshops for young and old alike.
The works honoured in 2022
This year, the festival is paying tribute to Switzerland, with a retrospective on the works of Claude Barras (“Ma Vie de Courgette”), brothers Sam and Fred Guillaume (“Max & Co”), Marina Rosset (“La Main de l’Ours”) and many other Swiss animation scholars.
To kick off the hostilities at the opening ceremony on 13 June at Bonlieu, who better than Gru and his team of Minions? The world premiere of “Les minions 2: Il était une fois Gru” (Minions 2: Once upon a time Gru) will introduce audiences to the big bad Gru and his faithful yellow companions.
In addition to this eagerly-awaited release, the Festival will also present the first episode of the animated series “Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai”.
The full programme has yet to be unveiled, but the FIFA team seems to have pulled out all the stops for this return to normality, which promises to be full of surprises for the public.
