Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2023

30 September 2022

Every year, Annecy takes on the colors of animated cinema for a week in June. This year, the Festival International du Film d’Animation (FIFA) takes place from Sunday 11th to Saturday 17th. Mexico will be in the spotlight.

Mexico in the spotlight at FIFA 2023
After Switzerland in 2022, it’s Mexico’s turn to be honored during the Festival International d’Animation.
The festival is essentially made up of screenings related to the featured country, with historical overviews of the country’s animated production and its animation techniques, retrospective sessions and tributes to great directors. Special programs will allow you to appreciate the effervescence and diversity of Mexican animation.
To mark the occasion, director and animator Jorge R. Gutierrez was asked to design the official event poster.

The 2023 poster

The poster for the 2023 edition of the Festival International du Film d’Animation was created by Jorge R. Gutierrez, who drew his inspiration from the nocturnal parties that take place in Mexico. The poster features a trajinera, a Mexican boat from Xochimilco, arriving in Annecy via the lake.

The Mexican director has won Emmy and Annie Awards. He is the creator of La Légende de Manolo and Maya, la Princesse Guerrière. The FIFA 2023 jury member is currently working on an animated feature for Netflix, I, Chihuahua.

Practical information on FIFA 2023

This year, for the first time, the Annecy International Animation Film Festival will be held over 7 days. It begins on Sunday evening with the traditional opening ceremony and ends on Saturday evening.

The growing success of FIFA has prompted the organizers to extend the event by one day. Every year, the number of festival-goers continues to grow. In 2023, they numbered over 6,000, from France and all over Europe.
